Not in the slightest
Apparently The Sunday Telegraph's man in America believes the Democratic convention was "surreal".
And a Radio Five reporter last week described a "Surreal" experience when a giant TV screen set up to show the Olympic-something-or-other failed at the key moment.
Type surreal into Google and search through news, and you should find a common theme. Almost no event to which the much abused title is attached to is in anyway surreal. Unless somehow reality had actually melted away and the event was witnessed in five-dimensions, something which should probably be in the intro anyway.
My friend in the blogosphere Graeme Whitfield has a list of annoying terms used by reporters and reporters alone. Sadly, thanks to people being completely overwhelmed by events that are largely predictable, the downgrading of the surreal is now far too common to even raise an eyebrow.
