Splish splash
If you're over 60 Andy Burnham, the Culture and Sports Secretary, is going to make sure you swim, and he's not going to charge you a penny.
Which is fine, assuming the swimming is voluntary, but as with all these things, how did a cash strapped Government find the money for a few million tickets to the no-diving section?
It didn't, so say district councils across the land. As The Journal has previously said, councils will contribute funds to many swimming based ideas.
And the grand sounding District Leader's Sounding Board has now written to the Government warning the measly sums set aside for swimming will not make up for lost revenue and that bills may rise.
Since the Government will have abolished the fine district of the North East long before the Olympics are here, we may avoid the brunt of the local tax rises now expected to pay for elderly swimming. Still, worth knowing.
