Twinkletoes Cable dances through choppy waters

WHERE's Nick Clegg? The poor old Liberal Democrat leader has fallen off the radar in the current crisis.

And even worse than that, his finance spokesman and one-time party leader Vince Cable is hogging the airwaves and television screens in the current crisis.

Twinkle-toed Mr Cable seems to have put his famous dancing skills to good effect to steer a commanding position through choppy economic waters. His jokes and assured performances in the Commons have also helped.

His claim that Gordon Brown had been transformed from Stalin to Mr Bean will go down as one of the best political put-downs, while his early calls for nationalisation of Northern Rock and warnings about personal debt earned him a strong economic reputation.

Time for another change of leadership at the Lib Dems? Heaven forbid anyone might suggest that.
