X Factor Darling

Simon Cowell watch out. There is a new man in town wanting to prove why he has the X Factor. His name is Alistair Darling. Profession: Chancellor. Dream: To save the country.

Tories disagree, but Labour MPs think he is proving a success after a slow start with his decision buy or part-national Britain's major high street banks since the global economic went into meltdown.
And his latest flourish has been to effectively axed VAT on a charity song by the X Factor finalists raising cash for injured service personnel.
The Chancellor said the Treasury would donate an amount equivalent to the tax revenue on the single. And he will be hoping it shows why he has the X factor when it comes to the voters.
