Ethical Christmas - visiting friends and don't forget teacher!

By Anna Heywood on Nov 30, 08 05:50 PM

Here's some ethical christmas present ideas for friends and teachers. View the gallery of gifts below and read on for more information about the presents.

When visiting friends, we traditionally take a bottle of wine for the adults and a tin of chocolates for their children.

Take a bottle of Fairtrade Wine from the Co-op food store round instead and treat the children to a box of English made Snow Bear Biscuits or Fairtrade Christmas Tree biscuits.
For an extra touch, attach a set of these Indian hand painted bottle stoppers to the wine (£5 from Traidcraft).

For a step up, then have a look at this wine gift set from Traidcraft (£25.00) which includes:

  • A bottle of Fairtrade red wine

  • Raja wine stopper

  • Two recycled wine glasses
  • Where to buy
Chilean Carmenere Fairtrade Red Wine - £4.99 Available from Co-op stores including 117 Newgate Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne NE1 5RF Tel: 0191 2393278

Snow Bear White Chocolate Biscuits £1.19 hand made in England by Artisan Biscuits available at Peppercorn, 155/157 Park View Whitley Bay, NE26 3RF.
These delicious winter themed bear biscuits are hand made in England from all-butter with no hydrogenated fats and with real Belgium chocolate.
Natural vegetable dyes are used, so that the biscuit flavours are echoed in the colouring.

Half Coated Fairtrade Chocolate Christmas Tree Biscuits (200g), £1.85 fromTraidcraft
Sure to go down well at visits or the School Christmas Parties these tasty crunchy biscuits are made in England using fair trade sugar from Malawi, then half-covered with creamy milk chocolate.

Whilst we're on the subject of school; DON'T FORGET TEACHER!
Fairtrade Belgium Finest Collection , £6.99 from Traidcraft
Teachers must get inundated with chocolates at the end of term, but ensure your gift is at the top of the class with this classy looking Fairtrade selection.
This gift-wrapped assortment of 16 milk, dark and white fair trade chocolates all have different fillings, including praline, coffee, caramel and marzipan.
