Sbragia: odd name, odd choice, sad face
PAUL LORAINE:
So we have a new manager and, for the second time, Quinny has surprised me with his choice.
I'm not convinced Ricky will be our manager for the 18 months his contract lasts but it still remains a bizzare selection as far as I'm concerned.
The man is clearly a well-respected coach but is giving him his first managerial job when we're in a fairly precarious position a wise idea?
I would suggest not, for these reasons.
One - fans can't pronounce his name and mumbled choruses of Ricky something-or-other's red and white army won't be the most inspiring sound.
Two - there's something deeply unsettling about his face - a default sadness that seems to predict doom for him and every person he associates with.
Three - and my only coherent, vaguely sensible suggestion - because he's a good coach.
By appointing him as our manager we are effectively cutting his time on the training pitch with the players are we not?
Having said all this, I trust Quinny to have made the decision on the basis of more than a couple of results against promoted sides.
Let's hope that sad face is smiling come May.

As a life-long Machem fan (have I spelt that right?), I'd like to say that this is a fantastic blog and that I always agree with what Paul Loraine writes. I'm going to be heading doone the trainin' pitches t'morra t' give Quinny a reet piece of me mind, like. Sabbo is clearly a quality coach and he clearly can't be spending as much time on the training pitch if he's the manager. Logic dictates everything Paul Loraine has written.
I'd also like to add that I buy the newspaper every other day and I would buy it every day if Paul Loraine were made, say, editor in chief, or, at the very least if he had a regular column in the sports section.
I'd like to make it absolutely clear that I have never met Paul Loraine.
Thank you for this forum.
Best,
Terry
