Poles for WOŚP charity / Polacy dla WOŚP

January is important month for Poles in North East. Every year they celebrate The Great Orchestra of Christmas Help, which is similar in purpose to Children in Need in England. Last year this charitable event in Newcastle was very successful and attracted over 300 people and large donations for cancer research in Poland. This year the entertainment was even more varied, but unfortunately there were much less Polish people taking part in the celebrations.

Volunteers from Irvin Mitchell Solicitors in Leeds also joined the initiative and made a stand in Polish centres around Leeds. Wielka Orkiestra Swiatecznej Pomocy is the biggest charity organisation in Poland set up by Jurek Owsiak. It has been run by him and assisted by thousands of Poles for 17 years and it is growing every year. This year they collected over 8 million pounds in Poland and all over the world. In Newcastle and Leeds they collected over 1500 pounds. We are happy that Poles from North East also contributed to this great cause.

Styczeń to ważny miesiąc dla Polaków z pólnocno-wschodniej Anglii. Jak co roku w tym właśnie miesiącu świętujemy Finał Wielkiej Orkiestry Świątecznej Pomocy, który jest bardzo zbliżony do tutejszej angielskiej imprezy charytatywnej pod nazwą Children in Need. W zeszłym roku Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy odbyła się w Newcastle i przyciągnęła prawie 300 osób, którzy chojnie wsparli fundację. W tym roku całodniowe występy były jeszcze ciekawsze i różnorodne, ale Polonia niestety niedopisała. W kwestowaniu wzięła także udział angielska firma prawnicza,której wolontariusze odwiedzili wszystkie polskie ośrodki w Leeds. Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy jest jedną z największych organizacji charytatywnych w Polsce, został założona przez Jurka Owsiaka i działa już od ponad 17 lat. W tym roku w Polsce oraz w innych krajach zebrano ponad 8 milionów funtów. W Newcastle i Leeds zebrano ponad 1500 funtow. Myślę, ze to miło, iż Polonia z pólnocno-wschodniej Anglii wzięła udział w tak szczytnym celu jakim jest wsparcie fundacji na cel wczesnego wykrywania nowotworów u dzieci.
