Where to recycle your christmas tree

By Anna Heywood on Jan 5, 09 11:20 PM

Dear Anna,
Where can I recycle my Christmas tree?
Happy New Year
Simon Johnson, Low Fell

Each year five million trees are bought and thrown away after Christmas, contributing to an extra nine thousand tonnes of waste.

Thankfully most Councils have special plans in place for recycling of trees.
Usually the trees are shredded and mixed with garden and organic waste collected from green bins and then composted, or in the case of Castle Morpeth Council, they are used for coastal land erosion protection at Cresswell.

Below in alphabetical order of Council are the collection points or arrangements in place for tree recycling.
I have contacted 11 councils in the area and haven't had responses from all yet.
As I get those I will update this entry accordingly.

Alnwick
Take your tree to one of the sites below on any day from January 3rd and before the chipping date for that site and place it in the appropriate area. Please make sure that there is no string or metal attached to it. If you wish to have a bag of chippings from the trees, please call at a site at the time and days listed below.

The following locations were verbally given to me by the council as temporary collection points, however no postcodes or areas were given so hopefully you'll known if its near to you or else it is probably best to call Envirocall.

It is nice to see so much interest on this site with regards to recycling. It will no doubt be in the future, an everyday way of living but note soon enough ! The company I work for have recently introduced a range of recycling bins for use both indoor and outdoor. The four bin recycling are colour coded to meet the latest European legislation, the recycling stations consist of the following: Plastic / Glass / Cans and paper and can be bought from

Has anyone ever been to the Cologne Christmas Market ? tehy have the biggest Christmas tree in the world! Imagine trying to recycle that!

I strictly recommend not to hold back until you earn enough amount of money to order all you need! You can just take the credit loans or financial loan and feel fine

I think that to receive the business loans from creditors you must have a good reason. Nevertheless, once I have received a car loan, just because I was willing to buy a bike.
