Blooming Nightmare...

By Francesca Craggs on Feb 2, 09 05:26 PM

AS I'm beginning to discover, there are a myriad of worries that come with planning a wedding. Hydrangea.jpg

And as a bride-to-be obsessed with attention to detail, my worries are running far deeper than I'd ever imagined.

My most recent anxiety stems from my choice of flowers.
Last summer I fell in love with blue Hydrangeas. (The pom-pom shaped flowering bushes that adorn many a suburban garden)
So much so, and to the disgust of my H2B, I found myself pinching them from people's gardens. Just a flower or two, not the whole bush may I add!
My obsession with this particular flower has even put our lives at risk. While driving along a country lane late last August, I spotted a house with the most beautiful blue Hydrangea bush I'd ever set eyes upon. The 'piece de resistance' of all blue Hydrangea bushes. A "blooming belta."
With no regard for the traffic behind me, or my H2B's life, I slammed on the brakes, and wheel-spinned the car almost onto their driveway.
"Quickly grab them!" I screamed to my bemused H2B, pushing him out of the car door.
There he was, bottom still in the car, head in Hydrangea bush, frantically plucking off flower heads, while I pretended to look at the map. The things you do for love!
So the blue Hydrangea was to be my wedding flower of choice. Until I bought the bridesmaids dresses that is. To my horror, I realised that the two would clash. Badly.
My wedding flower of choice is now the purple Hydrangea.
Did you know, the colour of the Hydrangea flower is determined by the PH value of the soil? My biggest concern now, what if this year's crop ends up pink or white?
Just one more worry to add to the pot...

Advice from any flower experts/gardeners would be greatly appreciated.
