Pick Your Battles...

By Mieka Smiles on Mar 9, 09 01:01 PM

Concerned about my husband's increasing reliance on Dominos pizzas for his daily sustenance, I have decided to try and up his intake of fruit and vegetables (no, jalapenos do not count as one of your five a day).

Not content with ruling over his liquid consumption, I am now on a mission to control his diet too. Mieka the Dictator quite clearly strikes again.

Last night I decided to ask him what he had for lunch:

"Vegetables, tofu, fruit salad and fresh spring water," he replied, without a hint of hesitation.

"Really?" I questioned, eyebrows raised.

"Fish and chips, a Time Out and a can of Pepsi," he said, revelling in my obvious annoyance.

The phrase 'pick your battles' springs to mind...

This reminds me of my beautiful late husband who enjoyed all the good things in life - sometimes to excess - except salad. Worried about his weight I tried to persuade him to eat more salad and he agreed to provided that it was with Helman's real mayonnaise, which he loved. So I bought the biggest jar possible.
The next week, checking on what we shopping we needed I saw the jar was almost empty. We hadn't had that many salads. I summonsed him to the kitchen and confronted him with the empty jar.
"I ate it" he said somewhat shamefaced.
"How the hades do you eat 2 litres of mayonnaise in less than a week?"
"With a spoon"

Just accept it's an uphill struggle and someimes you can't win.

I bet you didn't have the heart to shout at him after that admission Bentonbag! I would have had to give him a big cuddle I think.

Hi Claire - he is very lucky! I have his dinner waiting for him as we speak and he can like it or bloody well lump it.

Thank you both for your comments.
