The road to recovery
26th May
My husband went to work for the first time since my diagnosis and I am looking forward to some time alone but get a phone call from my surgeons secretary saying the ward have made a mistake with my appointment and I should be seen in out patients tomorrow now next Wednesday.
I go into a blind panic as she says it is nothing to worry about it was just a mistake but I have been a medical secretary for ten years and now all the tricks - she is calling me in early because it is bad news but is trying to make light of the situation. I phone my husband in a panic and he arranges to take time off work to come with me, I also call my aunt for support.

Arrive at hospital feeling tired and anxious as not slept all night. Keep thinking they are going to say results are bad and they can't do anything for me.
I am asked to go to the consultation room to be examined. A consultant I have never met before came in and told me my surgeon was on holiday, when he left I asked the nurse who he was and she told me his name but was unsure if he was an SPR, SHO etc so I was not amused. I met with this person and a breast care nurse and was told that my results were good, the tumour was aggressive but they had managed to remove it all with good margins.
Also it was oestrogen receptive which was excellent and scored 7/8 on another test which was also a great result. They told me I would need surgery to remove my lymph nodes as one out of three came back positive and while that was a good result they still needed to be removed, I was listed for surgery in two weeks time.
Following my recovery from this I would start a chemo regime tailored to my tumour type. I am ecstatic with my results and phone and text everyone with the good news.

Feeling happy about results and on the road to recovery. I am doing my exercises and getting more movement in my arm so can just about wash my hair myself.
