The Waiting Game
Another day passes, another day wasted. Reports that Shearer was due in London on Friday to meet powers that be were unfounded. So again we wait. Part of me does wonder why would Shearer need to be there if it was simply a shaking of the hands, and handing SJP's front door keys over to whoever is crackers enough to take the reigns of this shambles.
Should I really be disappointed that he isn't going to be there? To be honest, I really don't know. Not knowing what is going on is driving me insane. The promise that the club would be far more open to the fans has been shown to be what we all suspected. Lies.
The club should not be run from an office in London where the local media can not be in close contact with them. They owe the paying public an explanation. No matter how much money Ashley says he has ploughed into the club, if you have no one buying tickets/merchandise/pies then there is no football club. They have treated us with contempt ever since they arrived. A couple of free pints down the Bigg Market does not mask over what has been two years of bad judgement, lunacy and naivety.
The transfer window is upon us, and we have no idea what is happening. Thankfully, Michael Owen will get to further his career at either Hull or Stoke. The Duke will probably be heading back to Oz, David Edgar seems to be joining Burnley, Bassong is wanted by a host of Premiership clubs, Beye is allegedly a target of our neighbours down the road and even Taylor has been linked with a move away. Then you have Coloccini, Smith and Barton who seem to be surplus to requirements. There are only a handful of players I'd like to keep and build the team around, Enrique, Bassong, Taylor, Beye, Ranger and Krul. The rest, I wouldn't be too disappointed to see leave because they haven't got the fight or the talent to get us back up.
Before we can really start talking about who we want to keep and whose bags we'll happily pack for them, there is the important matter of getting this sale finalised and Shearer in the hot seat to work his magic. I have no preference as to who takes over. I guess this could be because I have no idea who is in the running to buy us! (However, there is one person who I'd rather kept his or her distance). As long as they're willing to back the manager then I don't care if it's a three headed Cliff Richard fan. This could be the first step to implementing some sanity into Newcastle United....then again, knowing our luck it's just chapter 375 of "How Not to Run a Football Club."
Happy days.

Echoing the sentiments of many a Newcastle fan Mr Farrell.
You've certainly hit it on the nose, Stephen, although I fear that despite a succesful buyout we will still remain in the Championship this time next year.
The current wage bill is crippling us and there are plenty of schysters such as messrs Duff, Geremi, Butt and Ameobi who are on fat salaries and have made no indication of wanting out despite our relegation, and why should they?
Unfortunately there has been no interest from other clubs for those individuals and the other deadbeats employed by us and they will most definately never earn as much in their careers as they currently do making them difficult to shift.
It even looks like Owen and Viduka are going to recieve a severance payment should they not find a club in July which further adds to our financial woes.
It's a bleak future that will get worse before it gets better. If it gets better.

You make some good points Andrew. There are a number of players on board who'd be happy to sit back in the Championship and continue to pick up their ludicrous wage. However, I do think that Duff was one of our better performers at the back end of last season. Whether that was because he was simply one of the best of a sorry bunch is a matter of opinion, but I wouldn't want to put him in the same category of Messers Geremi and Shola. Lets just hope that Owen can't resist the big lights of Hull.
On a brighter note, the take over seems to be drawing to a close...hopefully.

Another great piece Stephen! I'm sure lots of people are thinking the same things. Well done you. Keep up the good work!
I'm with you Stephen, we need to get rid of the deadwood and start looking forward to next season. Every day that goes by is a wasted day.
