Plot of Bother: Mid-July
Today's the day we officially get our prized keys to the big allotment gate - and thereby entry to the green and serene Three Mile Allotments site.
Wow! Exciting times for us. Only four months on the waiting list and now our very own veggie patch is within our grasp.
Plans are made to meet up with chairman Barry, who is going to talk us through all the rules and regs.
So excited were we that we popped into the next-door pub beforehand for lunch to talk over our veggie plan of action.
Mind you, The Three Mile Inn is distractingly close to our allotments site, just a two-minute detour... and husband Paul is already muttering about the money we'll be spending on lunches there.
It is such a fab site - and seeing all these beautifully cultivated plots in the sunshine makes all the difference. Plus that glass of rose with lunch also helps.
Can't wait to see our designated plot - but we're not under any illusions. We know it will probably be a tangle of weeds, but I can't help hoping the previous owners might have left a shed behind...
It's in a great spot, backing onto a little tributary of the Ouse. But it's fair to say it's massively overgrown and in need of more than a little tlc. And sadly no shed.
But on a positive note, there's a tangle of juicy raspberries and blackberries at one end which the kids are excited about. There's a potato crop in the middle. And fellow plot-holders are sooo friendly and generous with their advice.
Hi hoe - we're off on holiday now for a couple of weeks so all plans are on hold...
