Gordon Brown's "drug habit"
Just been chatting to delegates after the PM's speech to Labour conference. And very interesting it was to.
"Gordon Brown has to be persuaded to even take a headache pill," was the firm reply to the discussion about Andrew Marr's pill question on the BBC on Sunday.
And the speech went down well, apparently giving Labour some material to fight for. But there was an admission that Mr Brown is a good "number two" but not a number one.
Further, there was an acceptance of there being no number 1 at all - meaning the Labour party will have to swing behind the PM.
The other key issue to think about the coming election is the Irish vote on the new EU Treaty.
If they vote yes, that gives David Cameron's Tories a massive headache. How will they do with it and will it massively boost UKIP?
If they launch a massive campaign, will that take crucial votes off the Tories. The pledge of a referendum on voting change could also peel off some Lib Dem voters.
Everything could be all to play for - although that said my amiable conspirators are still not sure Labour will win.
Earlier today, former GMTV star Fiona Phillips just introduced Alan Johnson to the Labour conferene ahead of his big speech.
First of all, what is going witj a well-known TV star introducing the Home Secretary. Nothing to do with a positioning for the leadership?
And then she declared him to be a "proper person". Who isn't then - Gordon Brown, David Miliband?
Has she helped appoint Mr Johnson, a former postie?
