Put money on Miliband's Euro dream?
Will Foreign Secretary David Miliband heading for Brussels? He insists he is not a candidate to become Foreign Secretary of Europe, but does not rule out him categorically.
The job will be created under the controversial Lisbon Treaty, which could be ratified within weeks.
And his name is on a shortlist compiled by the Party of European Socialists seen by The Times. Now top Labour MEP Stephen Hughes has told me he would put money on it after recent lobbying of Mr Miliband.
"We were approaching David Miliband a week ago and would he be willing to put his name forward.
"At that time he was being a bit coy. He was being reluctant because the full focus was on trying to get Tony Blair the position of the president of the council.
"It is now clear there is no prospect of Tony Blair getting the presidency of the council.
"I am glad that David Miliband has allowed his name to go forward for the position of high representative.
Mr Hughes is the first vice-president of the Socialists and Democrats group in the European Parliament - the equivalent to the Parliamentary Labour Party in Britain. That makes him the second highest-ranking official and somebody worth listening to.
"I would put my money on David Miliband. He has an outstanding reputation in Brussels and he is regarded as a very safe pair of hands on the world stage," said Mr Hughes.
