Newcastle beat Preston
Been said many times this season, but another hard fought win. Hard fought but welcome. The result puts us two points clear of West Brom and six clear of third.
In truth, the match itself was awful. A really poor advert for the Championship. If I were a neutral watching this, I'd have switched off after 20 minutes. Having said that, I spent Sunday watching Bolton v Blackburn and Stoke v Portsmouth...best league in the world my ar*e.n That said, as long as we keep grinding out results on the back of these awful games I will be happy.
I did grow up during "The Entertainers" years, so it's a bit odd being so accepting of dire football, but now I'm older and wiser (others will tell you different) I see things for what they are. A win is better than a defeat no matter how poorly we play. Don't get me wrong, it'd be fantastic to win 4-0 every week but it isn't going to happen. Goal difference may well become a factor at the end of the season, but if we want to keep it tight at the back we have to sacrifice the open, flowing football with the squad we have.
Two home games coming up, and another opportunity to maintain a big lead on fellow promotion hopefuls.
