Darlo MP claims Siberian Goose feather pillows...

By William Green on Dec 10, 09 06:24 PM

Is Blairite Alan Milburn literally feathering his own nest? The Darlington MP announced he would quit his Darlington seat in June this year, but went on a spending spree at John Lewis in March.

"Household" items costing £760.85 were claimed for by Mr Milburn covering March this year, along with a £595.69 annual Sky TV subscription.

In an echo of the "duck house" controversy, it included a £107 duck down kingsize duvet.

And there were six Nigella Lawson measuring spoons, along with a Jamie Oliver sauté pan - although their cost was not broken down on the supplied receipt.

Six John Lewis cool standard pillow protectors costing £58.50 were also put on the taxpayers' tab, along with a £73 John Lewis all cotton quilted mattress cover

On top of that, four Siberian goose feather and down pillows were purchased.

In September last year, he claimed for a £49.50 clock radio from John Lewis in Newcastle.

That was followed up with £74.50 claimed for kitchenware and glasses, along with £6.75 for soap from John Lewis from this January.

In February, taxpayers footed the £19.50 bill for a sheet set and £151.55 for two lamps, a light and bulb.

A receipt from Newcastle's John Lewis store includes a £97 teardrop floorlamp and a £44 ceiling light.

Will these greedy blighters never stop?
Being obliged to maintain a second home is an expensive business and I have no problem at all with MPs claiming necessary and reasonable costs.
Note the words `necessary` and `reasonable`.
For instance, it is neither necessary nor reasonable to buy very luxurious ,therefore very expensive, bedding and other household stuff at public expense. Perfectly comfortable and good quality stuff can be had for a lot less.
Nor is it necessary for the taxpayer to buy MP`s soap! If we didn`t pay for it, would they not wash?
And why hugely expensive Sky contracts? After all it`s your second home, so you`re not going to be there much are you?
Ah! But I`m forgetting! Many MPs are `doing a runner` soon aren`t they? So their second homes will likely `flip` and become their luxurious, newly furnished, well (and expensively) equipped main homes, again.
And guess who paid for quite a bit of it?
You don`t need more than one guess do you?
No wonder our (Honourable?) Members of Parliament are held in such low esteem by most and contempt by many.
Just my opinion folks, so it won`t count cos I`m only a taxpaying voter.
