Newcastle in good signing shocker

By Stephen Farrell on Jan 26, 10 02:39 PM

So it has been confirmed that we have signed Wayne Routledge from QPR. First reactions, very good signing in my opinion.

I remember watching Routledge earlier in the season when we played QPR and in all honesty, he ripped us to shreds. We couldn't cope with his pace and what has our team been crying out for...yep pace.

The pessimist in me (I am a Newcastle fan after all) might ask why he has had, I think, 8 clubs at the tender age of 25? Maybe he is trying to emulate Steve Claridge in playing for every English league club. To be fair, a few of those clubs were loan stints which was always likely because he broke through at a very young age.

This has been one of the better signings we have made in a while. He can certainly play at this level, and he has some Premiership experience. He should be in line to make his debut tomorrow because Pancrate has so far flattered to deceive (Watford aside).

Fingers crossed he does the business for us.

I agree Stephen

One of the best players we have faced this season and he will give us good balance on either flank!

Hope he starts against Palace, still think we need another left sided defender (Perch maybe?) Attacking Centre Mid (Wilshire or Ambrose?) and a Forward (J.Roberts or J.Beattie?)

Couldn't agree with you more Farrell. He ran the show against us at SJP and should give us much needed width on the right side of midfield. Will be interesting to see how him and Simmo link up...
