Nick and Greg...and Wendy?
Have Nick Brown's feared political senses deserted him? A few weeks back he was preparing to fight Liberal Democrat Greg Stone for the Newcastle East constituency.
Greg has a controversial past and recently embarrassed himself with rude comments in an online political chatroom.
The ideal candidate some Labour supporter might say.
So how did Nick do the almost impossible and force the Lib Dems to change their candidate and potentially put him up against a much more electable opponent?
By crying too loud and too early some are saying.
Wendy Taylor, who sits on the city council executive, is a likely candidate. She's a mother, a doctor, has a proven track record as en exec member of getting things done and is much more likable than the career politician that Greg sometimes appeared.
If I was knocking on doors campaigning for votes I'm pretty sure I'd rather fight Greg, against whom I think I have plenty of ammunition, than Wendy.
Has Nick, whose new constituency will include many more Lib Dem voters, slipped up? Only time will tell.
