Out of the Cup.

By Stephen Farrell on Jan 25, 10 09:30 AM

Although a little part of me is maybe a tiny bit relieved at our exit of the FA Cup so that we can get our heads down and focus on the league, one can't help but feel ever so slightly shafted by a referee who can only be described as a dunderhead.

Many have compared Linington to the infamous Trelford Mills who infuriated Toon fans in the early 80's with some decisions on par with those on Saturday. You've read it all before, so I won't go into it in full but when are we going to do something about these hopeless referees? You could perhaps forgive them if this wasn't their full time job (which it wasn't until the mid 90's, I remember David Ellery being a lawyer) but they do this for a living and they still get even the most obvious decisions completely wrong? It's so bizarre how when you're in a stadium full of people who can all see the decision clearly, but the one plank in the middle cannot. I think it was Mike Dean who gave a penalty to Man City last week, when the original foul took place outside the area, and yet he blew for a penalty. A lot of them just want to get themselves in the paper. They crave attention, and what better way to do it by persistently cocking up and infuriating thousands.

So our attentions turn back to the league for good now...our only chance of a trophy. We're going to playing a very makeshift back four with S. Taylor ruled out for a number of weeks, if not months, R. Taylor suspended and Danny Simpson doubtful. God help us if Colo or Jose knack themselves. If you turn up early enough, you might get a game so get the early ladies and gentleman. I would have been quite confident of picking up a win without the problems we have now, will be tricky without those key players now though. Go on Ashley, get those hands in your pockets and help us out a bit eh?
