Lady Luck's dealt me a bad hand

By Tony Jeffries on Feb 1, 10 04:25 PM

I'VE had some bad news today when I had to pull out of my fight with Nathan King.

I was due to fight King in Nottingham on Friday but after picking up a little niggle in my last sparring session before the fight I've decided to do the sensible thing and pull out.

It's nothing serious, just something I've done to my hand. I won't mention which hand it is because I don't want my next opponent to know!

It's not really, really bad but you wear smaller gloves when you're fighting and it could have made it a lot worse.

I'm gutted because it was meant to be my first fight of 2010 and training had been going really well.

As most of you will remember, I suffered a little injury in November when I perforated my ear drum. This one's similar because it's also not very serious.

I've had plenty of worse injuries in the past, it's just something that's part of being a boxer and I just have to get on with things.

My dad had sold 50 tickets for the fight and he's offered everyone a refund but a few people have just told him to hang onto the money and they'll have tickets for the new date.

I'm hoping that will be some time in March.

Thanks very much for all your support, and I hope to be back in the ring again soon.

Shame about the hand. If you want to do some gentle training Woodlawn School's Xmas Pudding Fun Run will take place on Whitley Bay sea front on Sunday 21st February at 10.30am. It's 3.5 miles and everyone who completes the Run gets a Xmas pudding. It should have taken place on Boxing Day but it was far too icy. Entry fee £6, just turn up on the day. The Run is to raise funds for Woodlawn Parents & Friends Association. Woodlawn School serves children from 2 to 18 years old with physical, medical and sensory needs, from North Tyneside and surrounding areas
