It's a monk's life for me!

By Tony Jeffries on Jun 6, 11 03:14 PM

I'M living like a monk out here in Los Angeles - and loving it!

To be honest, my life out here is pretty boring. I spend most of my time when I'm not training either in the room I rent or the local coffee shop. But that's the best way for me to be if I want to become a champion.

I've got a bit of a routine during the week. Every day after the gym I come back home, have my food and chill out for around two hours to let my body recover. I do things like phoning my family. Then I go to the coffee shop, which is like my second home.

We're regulars in there now and the people who work there know to start making a large fat-free cappuccino when I go in!

Around 5pm every night I do my run, and I've been doing some hard running lately. Recently I've gone to bed at 8pm and not got up until 8am. I'm not asleep all that time, just lying in bed, watching TV and relaxing.

It might not sound that exciting, but it's perfect for me.

When I was in Sunderland I couldn't really do that. It was hard to have the self-discipline.

There were that many things I could be doing. It was just little things, like nipping to see my family or friends. I couldn't just lie in bed so I wasn't getting my proper rest.

My fiancée Sarah is out here with me. She helps me out a lot with things, drive me to the gym and back every day, and picks me up from my runs.

Sunderland will always be my home but I do like it a lot out here.

I absolutely love the weather. It's great when you're going out for a run every day and not having to wear three layers of clothes like I do often in the North East, I can just where shorts and a T-shirt. And you could have barbecues every day if you wanted. In England you can't really plan stuff like that because you can't trust the weather.

The people out here are really sound as well.

I know the lads in the gym pretty well now. They're all American heavyweights and I get on well with them. They're a nice set of lads, and
I'm accepted as one of them.

I keep myself to myself out here. Sometimes I train at the same time as them, but I'm never with them outside the gym.

Sarah misses her mam amd dad, but she's doing well with her fashion business. She buys vintage fashion and sells it on the internet through her ebay page and Facebook pages - http://myworld.ebay.com/loves.fashion/?_trksid=p4340.l2559 and www.facebook.com/every1.loves.fashion

She's also studying to be a nurse out here. Before we moved out she worked in Sunderland A&E, and she still does shifts there when we're back home.

It's the same sort of thing out here, but the medication has different names and there are different rules, so she's got a massive book she's working through at the moment.
