Lionel Richie, Metro Radio Arena

By Reviews on Mar 29, 09 05:22 PM

Sam Wonfor reckons our Love for Lionel is Truly Endless. Still.

Writing a review of a Lionel Richie concert is akin to falling headfirst into a pun-filled saucepan. With no obvious way out.

Taking inspiration from the common sense way to remove an Elastoplast I've decided the best way to deal with the situation is to simply get them all over with as quickly and succinctly as possible.

Ah-hem.

It was Easy to see the crowd were Dancing on the Ceiling with excitement to say Hello to a Truly great entertainer on Saturday night.

It was clearly My Destiny to cement my Endless Love affair with Lionel Richie with an All Night Long party at the Arena (or Brick House as we now - rather desperately - call it).
That'll just about do. I feel suitably cleansed.

Don't get me wrong... I'm as partial as the next person to an evening in the presence of one of Motown's most enduring exports.

The pun-overload problem is mine and not Lionel's... it's an occupational hazard for someone with a back catalogue resembling at least one volume of an encyclopaedia.

And if we can continue this encyclopaedic analogy for just a moment longer... I'd put it to whoever would decide which music legend gets which letter, that George (as he was covertly known to his Commodore bandmates) should be front and centre when it comes to doling out volume B.

When it comes to writing classic, brie-sprinkled Ballads, you'd be hard pushed to find a better fella for the job (the owners of 10,000 swaying mobile phones will back me up).

And if you need any more convincing, his Band were as tight as they come; his Banter had the crowd lapping up every word; and the aforementioned Brick House (closely followed by All Night Long) was absolutely Banging.
