GP's Song of the Day: John Denver
I know it's not cool to like John Denver but I don't care: Annie's Song was my mother's favourite song when I was a kid and I used to sing it as a four-year-old.
An ode to his wife Annie, Denver said that he "wrote this song in about ten-and-a-half minutes one day on a ski lift" to the top of Bell Mountain in Aspen, Colorado, with his immersion in the beauty of the scene reminding him of his wife.
Needless to say, Denver divorced Annie in 1982, though they did become friends again before his death in a plane crash in 1997.
